Unlock More Power and a Pain-Free Swing: How ForceDecks and TPI Assessments Transform Your Golf Performance

Golf may appear smooth and controlled, but producing a powerful, efficient, and pain-free swing requires your entire body to work together as one coordinated system. That’s why at Method Physiotherapy we incorporate VALD ForceDecks testing to understand how your body moves and how you generate force through the ground, the foundation of every great swing.

A TPI screen helps identify mobility and stability limitations (such as stiff hips, limited thoracic rotation, or reduced core control), while force plate analysis reveals how you actually apply force during your swing. This combination gives a level of detail far beyond video analysis alone. As one golf physical therapist notes, two swings may look identical on camera, yet their ground reaction forces can be dramatically different, with one golfer leaking power due to poor sequencing or uneven loading.

What ForceDecks Reveal About Your Swing

ForceDecks provide real-time insight into how efficiently you use the ground, the key driver of clubhead speed. They help us identify:

Left–right loading differences Timing issues in weight transfer Delays in lower-body force production Insufficient explosive drive from the legs Even small inefficiencies in these areas can reduce distance or contribute to back, hip, or knee discomfort during your game.

Research shows that a golfer’s vertical jump height, a proxy for lower-body explosive power, strongly correlates with driver clubhead speed. TPI co-founder Dr. Greg Rose also notes that elite golfers typically achieve a 20-inch vertical jump, with long-drive athletes often exceeding 30 inches. This vertical “thrust” is the same ground reaction force used in powerful swings.

Because of this, we often include a quick vertical jump test on the ForceDecks during a golf assessment. Low jump height or reduced take-off power suggests a need to develop explosive leg drive. Conversely, strong jump metrics paired with poor distance indicate a sequencing or timing issue, something the ForceDecks’ timing and pressure data can pinpoint.

    Turning Data Into Targeted Training

Using your TPI and ForceDeck profile, our physios and S&C coaches design a personalised programme that may include:

Rotational power development Core and hip stability work Plyometrics to improve vertical thrust Unilateral strength training to address asymmetries Sequencing drills for smoother weight transfer The goal is simple: improve how you load the ground, rotate, and transfer energy, leading to a more efficient swing, increased distance, and reduced injury risk.

As the kinetic-chain data consistently shows, better force production at the right moment equals better golf.
